Team
The people behind the project
We are excited to introduce the members of the Firenze Race Team, consisting of about 70 students, each bringing a unique set of skills and extensive experience in their field. The team members come primarily from the School of Engineering at the University of Florence, but also include students from other schools.
2026
Management
Organizing team activities and interfacing with institutional figures are fundamental tasks for optimal performance: the Management of the Florence Race Team is responsible for this.
Aerodynamics
The aerodynamics package of Formula Student cars is truly important: in order to develop it optimally, in-depth fluid dynamics studies conducted by our team of aerodynamicists are necessary.
Autonomous: controls
Implementing the autonomous system as if a human were operating it is no simple task; simulations and algorithms are the daily bread of the Controls department of the Florence Race Team.
Autonomous: vision & integration
The eyes of our autonomous system: thanks to a complex package of sensors and cameras, the members of the Vision department enable our car to visualize the track in real time.
Brakes and pedals
After every acceleration, there is always a brake: the members of the Brakes department work to make it as effective and reliable as possible
Chassis and ergonomics
All the components of our cars have one thing in common: they are attached to the chassis. Our chassis engineers are responsible for designing a structure that is solid, safe, and lightweight.
Engine Combustion
The power of our vehicle comes from here. The engine department develops and optimizes the internal combustion engine, improving its efficiency and performance.
Electronics
How many electrical wires are there in a Formula Student car? Surely the members of the Electronics department can answer this question, as they are the ones who design and create electronic boards and wiring.
Manufacturing
Our cars are entirely designed by us: the members of the Manufacturing department handle the production of components and the management of the sponsoring companies that manufacture them for us.
Steering
Formula Student circuits are extremely twisty: cornering with precision and at high speeds is essential to achieve good lap times.
Business
How could the Florence Race Team sustain itself economically if it were a company? Our Business department would tell us this through the development of a business plan.
Cost
Building a race car is extremely costly from an economic standpoint: the Cost team is here to keep track of all the expenses associated with the Florence Race Team.
Marketing
Without the support of sponsors, it would be impossible to carry out our activities: finding them and maintaining contacts is the task of the members of the Marketing department.
Social Media
Our presence on social media is crucial both for visibility in the motorsport world (particularly in Formula Student) and for thanking sponsors: our Social Media team is here for this purpose.
High Voltage
The department is dedicated to the design and construction of the electric powertrain, from the study and sizing of the battery to the choice and control of the electric motors.
Wheels and Tyres
Wheels are what connect the car to the ground: every turn, every braking, and every acceleration passes through them. The wheel department designs tires and rims to maximize performance on the track.
Suspensions
The Suspension department designs and develops the linkages that connect the wheels to the chassis. Precise geometries, springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars are engineered to ensure the right balance of grip, stability, and responsiveness in all driving conditions.
Drivetrain
Transmitting the engine's power to the wheels is the job of the Drivetrain department. Its members design and refine the transmission and differential to maximize acceleration and control.
